Volunteering in our HospiceShops

Kristen and Kelly (Pictured) have recently joined our volunteer retail team at our Lake Road HospiceShop, helping to raise much needed funds to keep our care available, free of charge.
Prior volunteering in our Lake Road Hospiceshop, both Kristen and Kelly had been avid op-shoppers. Recently, while fossicking for treasures at Lake Road, they saw our very real need for retail volunteers, and both decided to join the team.

We asked them how it was going and what made them decide to volunteer:-
“We are working 1-day days a week, helping to prepare the Lake Road Warehouse for opening on Thursdays and Saturdays – We love it!”

“Volunteering at a HospiceShop Waikato, is a great opportunity for us to give back to our community. A few hours here makes a massive difference, and we love to see what we've achieved in a day. Obviously, we both love op-shopping. Taking a pile of donated goods, sorting, cleaning and pricing them for sale, is satisfying and it’s a great feeling knowing that you’re helping such a worthy cause” says Kristen.

“You meet such a lot of lovely people here, both within the team and our customers, plus there is also a lot of baked goods being passed around at breaktimes. It’s a great atmosphere to be a part of,” says Kelly.
Donating goods to HospiceShops is a perfect way to lower the number of items thrown away at landfills. “I love to see how these quality donated items are being reused and repurposed rather than ending up in the landfill,” says Kristen.
